October 25, 2013, Friday-– “Stay in the Game-Team Up Against Drugs- Be Drug Free”- Wear team jerseys or t-shirts (Rattlers/Gators).

October 29, 2013, Tuesday-“Put a cap on Drugs”- Students may wear an appropriate cap.

2nd Six Weeks-Week 2

Week of: (2) Oct. 14-18, 2013

Primary Writing Mode:

Expository

Writing

Mon. – Con’t. Expository Writing with last week’s prompt.
Select the most important reasons from the Circle Map. Create a Flow Map to write reasons (from least to most important)
Tues. – Create Flee Map, using various colors for different “chunks.”
Wed. –   Write the opening paragraph, which must contain an interest catcher, a choice, and a thesis (controlling idea).
Thurs. –   Under each reason on the Flee Map, plan the support and elaboration, beginning with an explanation and example.

2nd Six Weeks-Week 2

Week of: (2) Oct. 14-18, 2013

Reading

Mon. – Introduce Voc. for Ch. 12-13. Discuss Reading Notes on the upcoming chapters.
Tues. – Comprehension Ques.
for chapters 10-11 .
Wed. – Students will make a prediction about the upcoming chapter: “What is going to be in the “deep darkness in which nothing could be seen…a yawning mouth leading in and down”?
Thurs. –  Greek and Latin Roots ped=foot – voc. & definition. Teacher will cut apart words and definitions, and place in a resealable bag or small envelope.
Independent-Students will match the words and definitions.

Read and analyze prompt using Tree Map –PAC (Purpose, Audience, Context/Format)

What do you think would have happened if the Company had stayed on the path and followed all the directions given by Beorn and Gandalf?  Try rewriting this chapter with the Company remaining on the path.

Set up into cooperative groups to study dragons.  Topics to be researched are appearance, habit, habitat, enemies, disposition, and powers.
