Honors Reading

Novel: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas


Mon. – Introduce and build background using power point presentation for The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

Tues. –  Meet the Author: John Boyne

Wed. –  Discuss Themes of the novel: Obedience, Loss of Innocence, Honesty, Danger of secret and lies, Friendship, Difference and Division (fences), and Patriotism.

Thurs. – Continue discussion on themes and vocabulary for Ch. 1-2
 
Honors Writing
 
Writing Mode: Expository Essay and Personal Narrative


Mon. – Begin Expository Essay. Review prompt and purpose for writing.

Tues. – Work on creating an effective controlling idea/thesis statement.

Wed. – Work on body paragraphs giving reasons and supporting with explanation and examples.

Thurs. – Create conclusion and revise and edit draft.  Students must check for correct capitalization, word usage, punctuation, and spelling.


Enrichment/Projects:
Students will complete their expository essay for the week.
