Personal Narrative
Expository Essay

Novel: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas


Instruction:

Writing

 Mon. – Introduce Narrative Prompt for the week.  Begin brainstorming ideas.
 Tues. – Begin “Flee Map” and begin working rough draft.
 Wed. – Continue rough draft and begin to revise and edit with peers.
 Thurs. – Students will work on final copy of their essay.  Final Narrative Essay due.

Reading

Mon. – Discuss chapters 3-5.  Work on vocabulary development - Synonyms/Antonyms; Cloze Call Reading using a word box.
Tues. – Language Activity: Using the iPad, students will investigate and research three interesting facts about the notorious place known as “Auschwitz”.
Wed. – Students will choose ten words from the chapters with two or more syllables; indicate the syllables by drawing a line between each syllable.  
Thurs. – Comprehension questions for chapter 4 & 5. Character Study: describe what you feel about Bruno’s father. Language Activity: Interpret expressions used in the novel.

Enrichment/Projects:
A Letter Home:
It must have been very difficult for Bruno to move away from all his friends – especially to a place like Out-With.  Imagine you are Bruno and write a letter home to either Karl, Daniel, or Martin, describing your new home and your feelings about the move.

Homework:
Read Ch.6,7, & 8
